For customers who’s a sense of quality timber shutters at a lower price point, a paulownia shutter is a great option.
Paulownia shutters wood is an excellent material for painting or staining, due to its fine knot-free grain. Sourced from Northern Asia, Paulownia is a lightweight yet durable hardwood that grows relatively quickly. Although it’s hardwood, it is approx. 1/3 lighter in weight, when compared to other hardwoods, makes it an excellent choice for Tier-on Tier or wider openings.
The fine grain texture, knot-free appearance, and low oil content make it the perfect timber to be stained or painted. Paulownia wood has excellent thermal insulation properties, and low thermal conductivity helps withstand the cold in winter and heat in summer, helps maintain the perfect ambient temperature in your home, and provides you and your family with maximum comfort.
Paulownia shutters are a type of window shutter made from lightweight yet sturdy wood. They are typically painted with UV stabilizing paint to protect them from the sun’s rays. There are two main types of Paulownia shutters: mono closures and dual closures. Mono closures are a solid color, typically matching Basswood or PVC shutters. Dual closures have a “Rustic” finish, which resembles a whitewash finish.
Our premium quality wood shutters have a minimum of 4 hardwood tenons. The end of each rail is painstakingly machined to have a 1/2″ X 1 7/8″ tenon by a custom-built tenoning machine.
Deep Pocket Mortises
Each stile is precision machined with a minimum of two deep pocket mortises. These mortises perfectly fit the associated tenon. The mortise tenon joint is the strongest joint in millwork and adds tremendous strength, even without glue.
The tenon and mortise are put together, and a hole is drilled through the mortise and the tenon. Hardwood dowel is driven into the hole, locking the tenon into the mortise for the life of the shutter.
We use the highest grade hard-wearing Polyurethane(PU) paints and stains to ensure stability and long-term wear and tear. All colors are UV resistant, environmentally friendly, low VOC.
