PVC Plantation
Shutters -- Colour
Consistency at Scale

When colour uniformity across a 200-unit project order matters, the answer is vertical extrusion control. We compound, extrude and finish every PVC profile in-house -- no third-party profile supplier, no batch-to-batch colour drift.

In-House Extrusion

Colour Consistency
Starts at the Die

Most shutter factories source PVC profiles from third-party extruders. That introduces a variable Goodwood has eliminated: we operate 50+ dedicated extrusion lines in-house, producing 200+ proprietary cross-section profiles from compound we formulate ourselves.

The practical consequence for wholesale buyers is straightforward -- when you reorder six months later, the profile geometry and colour match your original shipment. There is no "different batch from a different supplier" explanation.

  • Proprietary Compound Formulation
We control the PVC compound recipe -- resin grade, impact modifier ratios, pigment dispersion -- before it reaches any die. Colour is locked upstream, not corrected downstream.
  • In-House Die Tooling & Maintenance
All 200+ dies are owned, maintained and modified in-house. Custom louvre widths, wall thicknesses and hollow-section geometries can be adjusted without lead time penalties from an external tooling shop.
  • Dimensional Tolerance Control
Wall thickness and outer dimension tolerances are monitored at the extrusion head. Profiles that fall outside specification are rejected before they enter the assembly workflow -- not after.
  • 280,000 Shutter Sets / Year Capacity
Combined shutter capacity across all materials. PVC lines run on a dedicated production schedule -- large-volume PVC orders do not compete with wood or aluminium workflow for capacity.

Compound & Process

Anti-Yellowing Formula
& Compliance Posture

Long-term colour stability in PVC shutters is determined primarily at the compound stage -- specifically the stabiliser chemistry and UV-absorber loading. Here is how we approach both.

PVC colour profile cross-sections and swatch samples

Lead-Free Thermal Stabiliser System

Our compound uses a calcium-zinc (Ca/Zn) stabiliser system -- lead-free by formulation, not by retrofit. This is the baseline for all PVC profiles we produce, regardless of destination market. We understand and actively track international chemical compliance requirements including REACH (EU), RoHS and analogous regulations in our target markets. We do not claim specific certification status beyond what our internal compliance team has formally confirmed; buyers requiring documented compliance for a specific regulation are encouraged to raise this during the enquiry stage so we can provide accurate, current information.

UV Absorber Loading & Anti-Yellowing Test Protocol

UV absorbers (HALS-type) are blended into the compound at the mixing stage -- not applied as a surface coating. Every production batch undergoes accelerated UV exposure testing before release. We test for yellowing index shift under UV cycling conditions; batches that show deviation from our internal threshold are quarantined and re-compounded. This is a batch-level process, not a sampled audit.

Why In-House Extrusion Solves the Colour Problem

  • Same compound batch reference stored per colour SKU -- reorders match originals
  • No third-party extruder substitution -- supplier change risk is eliminated
  • UV batch testing before release -- not post-market complaint driven
  • Custom colour matching available for OEM/brand partners with volume commitment

Impact Modifier & Rigidity Balance

PVC shutter profiles require a balance between impact resistance (relevant for freight handling and installation) and surface hardness (relevant for scratch resistance and paint adhesion on foil-wrapped variants). We adjust the impact modifier ratio by profile type -- hollow louvre profiles are formulated differently from solid frame sections. This is documented per profile SKU in our internal compound specification sheets, which are available to qualifying buyers on request.

Compliance Transparency

Goodwood understands and actively monitors REACH, RoHS, and equivalent international chemical safety frameworks. We do not represent our products as certified under any specific regulation unless our compliance team has formally confirmed this for a current production batch. If your market or customer requires specific documentation, please contact us -- we will give you an honest, current answer rather than a blanket claim.

Note: Buyers requiring documented compliance for a specific regulation are encouraged to raise this during the enquiry stage so we can provide accurate, current information rather than a generic claim.

How We Make It

PVC Shutter
Production Process

Every PVC shutter is produced end-to-end within our 50,000 m² facility -- from raw compound extrusion through to finished, packaged product. Six controlled stages. No outsourced steps.

PVC Shutter Production Process -- Extrusion

Extrusion

PVC compound is fed through 50+ proprietary in-house extrusion lines. We control compound formulation, die tooling and wall thickness -- producing 200+ cross-section profiles without reliance on third-party extruders. Lead-free Ca/Zn stabiliser system is used throughout.

PVC Shutter Production Process -- Reinforcement

Reinforcement

Extruded PVC profiles are reinforced with internal steel or aluminium inserts where structural requirements demand it -- particularly for wide-span frame sections and mid-rail components. This step ensures dimensional stability under load and across temperature cycling.

PVC Shutter Production Process -- Cutting

Cutting

Reinforced profiles are precision-cut to order dimensions on CNC-controlled saws. Louvre blades, frame stiles, rails and tilt rods are cut simultaneously across multiple workstations to maintain production throughput. Tolerances are held to ±0.5mm per cut component.

Assembly

Cut components are assembled into finished shutter panels across 80+ automated workstations. Louvre blades are inserted into frame stiles, tilt rods and staple pins are fitted, and hinge hardware is attached. Panel squareness and louvre rotation are verified at this stage before the unit proceeds to QC.

Application Scenarios

Where PVC Outperforms
Other Shutter Materials

PVC is not the right material for every project -- but for buyers whose customers prioritise cost, durability in variable climates, and scalable replenishment, it is the practical default choice in most residential and light-commercial contexts.

Bathrooms & Wet Rooms

PVC does not absorb moisture in the way solid wood does. In environments with regular steam or sustained humidity, wood shutters carry a meaningful risk of dimensional change and surface finish degradation over time. PVC profiles are structurally unaffected by moisture exposure, making them the appropriate specification for bathrooms, laundries and similar wet-area rooms.

Compared to solid wood shutters, PVC profiles show substantially lower moisture absorption in high-humidity cycling tests. We recommend PVC for any room where sustained humidity regularly exceeds approximately 70%.

Volume Residential & Build-to-Rent Projects

Developers fitting out 50-500 units need consistent colour across all windows, predictable per-unit cost, and a supplier who can hold a production schedule. PVC's lower material cost relative to wood -- combined with our in-house extrusion ensuring batch consistency -- makes it the standard specification for volume residential work in most of our target markets.

Mixed-container loads combining PVC shutters and window shades are available -- relevant for developers who want a single shipment covering all window coverings for a project.

Coastal & Variable-Climate Markets

Australia, New Zealand and coastal US markets present wide seasonal humidity and UV exposure ranges. PVC's dimensional stability across humidity cycles, combined with our HALS-based UV absorber system, makes it a lower-maintenance specification for these environments compared to painted wood products that may require periodic refinishing.

Our anti-yellowing batch test is specifically designed around the UV exposure profiles relevant to Australian and New Zealand outdoor light conditions.

Wholesale Replenishment & Stock Programmes

Distributors running stock programmes need a supplier who can fulfil repeat orders to the same specification -- same profile, same colour, same packaging -- without the variation that comes from sourcing profiles externally. Our compound reference system and in-house die ownership make this straightforward for PVC SKUs.

Small-batch air freight replenishment is available for fast-moving SKUs between FCL orders -- useful for distributors managing lean local inventory.

Shaped Windows -- Arch, Circle, Triangle

PVC's thermoplastic properties allow frame components to be heat-formed into arch and curved profiles without the grain-direction constraints of solid wood. Custom-shaped PVC shutters for arched, circular or triangular windows are standard production items at Goodwood -- not special-order premiums -- because we own the forming tooling in-house.

Maximum radius and span dimensions for shaped PVC shutters should be confirmed at the enquiry stage -- provide your window opening dimensions and we will confirm feasibility.

When Wood Is the
Better Specification

PVC is not always the right answer. If your customers prioritise the warmth of natural timber grain, are specifying for low-humidity interior environments, or require FSC® chain-of-custody documentation for a green building project, our Wood Plantation Shutters may be the more appropriate product.

We produce both -- and can supply mixed-material orders from a single shipment. Understanding the trade-offs between materials is part of what we do during the specification stage.
