Sustainable Sourcing
& Environmental
Responsibility

Environmental claims without documentation are marketing noise. This page explains exactly what Goodwood's FSC chain-of-custody certification covers, which materials it applies to, and how you -- as a buyer -- can independently verify it before placing an order.

Scope of this page: FSC chain-of-custody certification and sustainable timber sourcing only. We do not claim carbon neutrality, ISO 14001 certification, or other environmental standards that have not been independently verified for our facility.

FSC Certification

What FSC Chain-of-Custody
Actually Means

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification is not a single factory stamp. It is a chain-of-custody (CoC) system that requires every organisation handling certified material -- from the forest operator through the sawmill, the component supplier, and finally the finished-goods manufacturer -- to hold its own valid CoC certificate.

A product can only carry the FSC label if the entire custody chain is unbroken and each link is independently audited. Goodwood holds FSC CoC certification for our plantation shutter manufacturing operations. This means our FSC-certified pine shutters are traceable back through a documented, audited supply chain -- not self-declared.

  • Annual third-party audits

Our CoC status is re-verified each year by an accredited FSC certification body -- not self-assessed.

  • Applies to FSC-certified pine only

Our FSC CoC covers pine (Pinus radiata / plantation pine). Basswood, paulownia and PVC products are not within the current certified scope.

  • Publicly searchable certificate

Our certificate code can be verified on the FSC certificate database at info.fsc.org -- no need to take our word for it.

  • On-product labelling available

For buyers who require FSC label use on finished products or packaging, we can facilitate this through the standard FSC trademark licensing process.

You receive FSC-labelled product with full documentation for your market.

Material Sourcing

Timber Species &
Sourcing Rationale

Goodwood uses four primary wood species across our plantation shutter range. Each was selected based on structural performance, dimensional stability, workability and -- where applicable -- documented sustainability credentials. Below is an honest account of what we can and cannot claim for each.

Ash wood plantation shutters showing visible grain character

Ash (Fraxinus spp.)

Standard sourcing

Used for premium wood shutter applications requiring high hardness and visible grain character. Sourced through established timber merchants. No FSC certification available for ash in our current supply chain. We recommend buyers with strict sustainability requirements specify pine or request clarification before ordering.

Basswood plantation shutters -- plantation-grown timber

Basswood (Tilia spp.)

Plantation-grown

Sourced from plantation-grown stock. Not currently within our FSC CoC scope. Basswood is a fast-growing, plantation-managed species -- we do not source old-growth material -- but we cannot provide FSC documentation for basswood products at this time.

FSC certified pine plantation shutters

Pine (Pinus radiata / Plantation Pine)

FSC® CoC Certified

Sourced from FSC chain-of-custody certified suppliers. Full documentation available. Suitable for buyers requiring verified sustainable sourcing for retail compliance, green building specifications, or CSR reporting purposes.

Paulownia wood plantation shutters -- fast-growth species

Paulownia (Paulownia tomentosa / elongata)

Fast-growth species

One of the fastest-growing commercial timber species globally, with a harvest cycle of 5-8 years compared to 25-40 years for many hardwoods. Not FSC-certified in our supply chain. Suitable for buyers prioritising lightweight product performance; not suitable for buyers requiring formal CoC documentation.

Honest limitation: If your procurement policy, retail partner, or green building certification (e.g. LEED, BREEAM) requires FSC documentation, please specify pine when enquiring. We will not misrepresent the certification status of other species.

Independent Verification

How to Verify Our
FSC Certification

You should not have to take a supplier's word for certification status. FSC operates a publicly searchable global database. The following steps allow you to confirm Goodwood's CoC status independently -- before or after placing an order.

  1. Request our FSC certificate code

Contact us at info@goodwoodshutters.com and ask for our current FSC CoC certificate number. We will provide it in writing. If a supplier declines to share their certificate code, that is a red flag.

  2. Open the FSC certificate database

Navigate to info.fsc.org -- the official FSC certificate search portal. This database is maintained by FSC International and lists all active, suspended and terminated CoC certificates globally.

  3. Search by certificate code or company name

Enter the certificate code or search for "Xiamen Goodwood" or "良木工贸" in the company name field. The result will show the certificate status (Active / Suspended / Terminated), the scope of certification, the issuing certification body, and the expiry / next audit date.

  4. Confirm the certified product scope

The database entry will specify which product categories and species are within scope. Confirm that "plantation shutters" or "wood window shutters" and "pine" appear in the certified scope before specifying FSC-labelled product in your purchase order.

  5. Request a copy of the certificate document

For procurement records, ask us to provide a PDF copy of the current certificate. This document, issued by the certification body, will carry the certification body's logo and signature. It is the document your compliance or sustainability team will need for audits or supplier questionnaires.

  6. Specify FSC requirements in your purchase order

If FSC documentation is a purchase condition, state it explicitly in your PO: specify the species (pine), request FSC sales invoice / delivery documentation, and confirm whether you require FSC trademark licensing on packaging. We will confirm in writing before production begins.
